27 December – My crazy rhythm’s gonna knock you off your feet

The United Kingdom has had a torrid time of late. Up until the free language rule, they could do almost no wrong. However now, getting out of the right-hand side of the scoreboard is an achievement.

Where did it all go wrong? There are probably many reasons – to many to go into here. But we can still look at songs from the UK that maybe should have done better. Like the one from today’s birthday girl Javine Dionne Hylton. The BBC sent her to Kyiv in 2005 with high hopes and a very funky little song. Even appearing second in the running order wasn’t a major barrier, or so the UK thought. So come that fateful day on 21 May 2005, she could only manage a 22nd place finish, with 18 points from four countries. She didn’t finish last, but hers was the last song to score points. Why, is a mystery. Maybe you, the discerning fan could enlighten us all.

Javine is 39 today.

Happy birthday, Javine!
