Albania – oooh this has tickled my fancy.

Well, this is clearly the proper start to the day because I’m more awake now I’ve seen Albania and realised Anxhela looks like a young Carol Vorderman.

I suspect 90% of Europe won’t understand that reference, so on with the song. There is plenty of attack in this performance, as the silver clad Anxhela is all alone on stage. She emotes and walks up and down and does minimal movements, but you come to realise quickly that the song doesn’t need any overblown stuff. The dramatic red background compliments the performance really well and, as the young ones say, Anxhela owns the stage.

I have to admit to not liking this that much in the previews, but I’ve had my eyes opened by just how much better this is when actually performed with the right complimentary staging. Something that has not been en vogue this year in some rehearsals. This looks the part, Anxhela sounds the part. What’s not to like?

Well… her shade of all over tan perhaps, but I’m hardly qualified to give advice here.

Vorderman. Sounds Dutch. Carol doesn’t.
