Today we got Lesley with the Good Hair doing Lesley with the unique and awesome staging of one of the best songs in the contest (according to me).

After writing this off and wiping a tear from my eye, I’m back on board with Team Ireland and willing this to go all the way – surely to the top ten in this semifinal. It’s certainly the standout staging this year for all the right reasons. What they do on screen fits the song.

With the effects in place today, it all made so much more sense. I still had reservations about the flipbook, but by the third run though, I made my peace with it. Given the choice, I’d elbow it now. At the midpoint I thought ‘is this too made for TV’. Will it jar with the other entries so visibly on stage, but for the final chorus, she breaks out of make-believe and commands the stage big style.

Lesley looked happier, though perhaps occasionally nervous and was in good voice. For those who declare otherwise, let me say this: Lads, this is how a ballsy rock singer sounds, she’s not performing light fecking opera.

The Fanning Verdict

Thumbs up iconI said no last time out, this time, I’m a firm YES. It’s also removed any lingering doubts I had for Slovenia missing out.
