At last, the secret of DUTCH EUROVISION VENUE is revealed

Ahoy, Rotterdam

In May 2020, Eurovision fans will head to Rotterdam to watch the 65th Contest in The Ahoy.

The organising committee appointed by Dutch TV accepted bids from five cities, narrowing their search down within days to just Maastricht and the eventual winning bid.

Maastricht and Rotterdam offer the right facilities to organise both the television show as well as side-events like the Eurovision Village, EuroClub and the (tedious) Opening Ceremony. Both cities have enough hotel rooms and supportive local councils promised help with the costs.

A series of visits and interviews followed, and with all the pomp and ceremony of a damp Roman Candle in your nan’s back garden, the worst kept secret in Eurovision became public.

In a two minute film produced by NOS, the dates were also revealed as the not very secret at all 12th, 14th and 16th May,  Get your trains and aeroplanes booked!

Staging the festival is likely to cost up to €30m, and Zuid-Holland provincial council has said it will contribute €1m. Rotterdam alderman Said Kasmi said he did not yet know how much the city would contribute to the bill, but that it would be considerable.
