Our last to reveal is France, and I’ve been longing to see this since Alma was announced. I really adore this song, and have even become accustomed to the new version with the English parts. I’ve been intrigued as to how it would be staged, as there’s so much potential impact to be conveyed.
I’m not sure she’s conveying it. She’s alone on stage, with some changing and sweeping backdrops. There’s spinning houses (a bit like in The Wizard of Oz), and towerblocks, and buildings beneath her feet. The large backdrop changes to a swirling image of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower illuminated, just in case you forget who this is.
I’m not sure they’re the right effects. It gets a cheer at the end, and the song deserves it. Alma too delivers well, but I think the staging lets her down.
