We’re expecting a pretty tiny crowd in the arena tonight, I believe?

7:55 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 19:55
Yeah – they haven’t sold many tickets so the press have been allowed in – after telling us that we would not be

7:57 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 19:57
Little “probleme technique” in the press working area; the satellite feed test card made nearly all the monitors in here turn themselves off. Ah good, there’s a nice man coming round to fix it. 🙂

7:58 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 19:58
All screens fixed and there is NO ONE in the hall!!

7:59 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 19:59
Row upon row of empty seats as far as the eye can see.

8:00 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:00
Right we’ve started!!

8:00 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:00
I feel that a moment is being shared here.

8:02 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:02
There is officially about 40 people in the hall

8:02 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:02
Nearer 7, I think. But they’re enthusiastic.

8:03 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:03
Sometimes there are no words for this contest – It looks very professional but it is a shame there is no one in the hall – but it is up to me at home to choose their destiny – they are explaining the “new” procedure.

8:03 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:03
That’s right!

8:04 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:04
Simple explanations for simple people! – And you CANT vote for your own country remember!!

8:05 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:05
18000 people in the hall tomorrow I hope!!

8:05 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:05
Apparently I can’t vote for my own country, even though they know I want to. Have they not been reading the blog?

8:05 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:05
Right and we’re into Song number one!

8:05 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:05
Moldova, I believe?

8:06 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:06
Ahhh its a Moldovan man spinning on a turn table!! – But there is some bad notes coming on here….. and even worse eye shadow

8:07 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:07
That’s some serious eye shadow. Bright Cyan in ZX Spectrum terms.

8:08 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:08
This looks a lot messier than I expected it to.

8:08 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:08
It looks vile to be honest and messy – it sounds a bit out of key as well and that worries me – it looks all kinds of wrong – maybe qualifying but not sure

8:09 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:09
Far from convincing, for sure.

8:09 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:09
Russia next then..

8:10 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:10
its snowing petals on them to start with – that cold snap has got to Fornebu quick!!

8:10 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:10
Rain out, snow in. Dear yr.no…

8:11 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:11
Peter looks very disinterested, considering the Juries will be voting – and when he looks at her photo, its a pen drawing! – This is gonna get Europe smiling, certainly, but not voting!!

8:11 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:11
It’s comedy misery genius, clearly.

8:12 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:12
Couple of ducked notes in there, but I’m content with that.

8:12 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:12
That was comedy awful!

8:12 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:12
That is *so* not qualifying

8:13 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:13
Next on the line is Malcolm from Lincoln. You’re live on ESC!

8:14 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:14
There’s a fine line between tragedy and comedy, isn’t there?

8:15 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:15
Best piano player evah!

8:15 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:15
Some bad notes here as well – He as caught Peter’s disease

8:15 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:15

8:16 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:16

8:16 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:16
A third panellist? That’s just madness!

8:16 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:16
They look a bot odd on stage to be honest and that is another song that is going nowhere!1

8:16 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:16
Estonia or Russia, Gert Says, I think I’ll go for Russia, just…

8:16 Comment From Gert Waterink %28ESF Magazi

8:17 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:17

8:17 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:17
Is this the one with the tree-loving hippie-huggers?

8:17 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:17
Thats the one… and blimey the lime trees are all on stage now!

8:17 Comment From Gert Waterink %28ESF Magazi
24 May 2010 20:17
it’s madness predicting. Especially when you’re a libra like me.

8:18 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:18

8:18 Comment From James_Scotland
24 May 2010 20:18
Estonia is going through!

8:18 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:18
They look a bit wooden. 🙂

8:18 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:18
hmmm – not based on our evidence James……

However, Slovakia may well have redeemed themselves with this – even though Kristina’s mother is still on stage with them and the 4 dancing trees are shoving Kristina into the air

8:19 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:19
Couple of odd notes there me thinks as well – perhaps the in ear monitors arent working to the best of their ability in the hall?!

8:19 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:19
Not quite note perfect. 🙁

8:19 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:19
God I hate this with a passion! (Sorry any Slovakians who may be present!)

8:20 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:20
All the crowd noise is probably causing problems 😉

8:20 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:20
You don’t know talent Mr Nick

8:20 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:20
I now think that she has a squeak at qualifying – but that’s about it I guess. 4 songs down and not a certain qualify among them…

8:20 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:20
Finland next

8:20 Comment From James_Scotland
24 May 2010 20:20

8:22 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:22
If Finland does not qualify I shall eat my own arse!

8:22 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:22
I’ll start selling tickets.

8:22 Comment From Gert Waterink %28ESF Magazi
24 May 2010 20:22
A Remark: There needs to be a certain qualifier after 5 songs to keep the televoter interested. Otherwise countries like Portugal and Bosnia have a better chance of making it into the final.

8:22 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:22
This’ll be winning the semifinal then, clearly.

8:22 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:22
How very white, in a timotei advert sort of way.

8:22 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:22
This has so much appeal and likeability that this will be winning the Semi Final – Its the best thing in it and I have NOT been drinking, oh dear me no!!

8:23 Comment From James_Scotland
24 May 2010 20:23

8:24 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:24

8:24 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:24
What’s the cheese like in the Sibelius hall at this time of year?

8:24 Comment From Gert Waterink %28ESF Magazi
24 May 2010 20:24
I’m from Holland. And I think Cyprus is an almost certain qualifier. Bit of ‘Rock ‘n Roll Kids’ there. Love it. BBC should be jealous,

8:24 Comment From James_Scotland
24 May 2010 20:24

8:25 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:25

There is a quick filler on screen at the moment – They are just reminding us what is going on….

8:25 Comment From Nuno
24 May 2010 20:25
Even being Portuguese…My qualifiers would be : Portugal, Greece, Iceland, Slovakia, Belgium, Bosnia, Moldavia. The rest I leave it for the chance on it…:D

8:27 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:27
She looks like a leftover Kuunkuiskaajat.

8:27 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:27
Not the song, but “l’interprete” of said song.

8:27 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:27
In reference to my last comment – If Latvia qualifies I shall eat my own leg!! – this is flatter than a squished hedgehog on the E18 outside the arena!

8:27 Comment From Jonna
24 May 2010 20:27
Oh, it would be so nice if Finland would qualify…I think I would go and write something mean to AKOE after it haha

8:28 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:28
Although she is looking at the camera, I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing – Have I got the ear plugs handy at all?!

8:28 Comment From Mister LJ
24 May 2010 20:28
She looks like an off duty porn star.

8:28 Nick_at_ESC

8:29 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:29

8:29 Comment From James_Scotland

8:29 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:29

I am equally sure that Serbia is also qualifying, do I have any body parts left to eat on the gormet meal??!

Inter Milan looks like a porcelin doll, but man he attacks the hell out of this song and makes me smile, if only he had the staging he had in the Serb national final!!

8:32 Nick_at_ESC
24 May 2010 20:32

I actually like Bosnia in this context. Yikes. That’s worrying.

8:37 OnEurope (Phil)
24 May 2010 20:37
