Fresh off their return to the contest after a 30-year break, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has announced plans for the 2025 Luxembourg Song Contest. This will be the national selection show where the country will choose its next Eurovision entry.
RTL Luxembourg has confirmed the event will take place on January 25, 2025, at the iconic Rockhal in Esch-Belval. It’ll be the second edition of this revamped national selection, and they’re pulling out all the stops—starting with a slick new logo (because Eurovision is 50% about the branding, right?).
Submit now or miss out for 2025
The real news for aspiring Eurostars is that the song submission window slams shut on October 6, 2024. So, if you’re an up-and-coming pop sensation or just think you’ve got what it takes to wow the international Eurovision audience (or even if you’re one of those who pens an avant-garde banger in the shower), get your skates on and submit your entry stat.
Watch party
The national final will be broadcast live on RTL Lëtzebuerg, with the winning act headed to Basel in May 2025. And to keep things interesting, an international jury will be picking apart each act. So, no pressure!
As for tickets? They’re not on sale just yet, but they’ll announce that soon enough—so keep an eye out if you fancy being part of the Rockhal audience.
Small print
For the pedants among us (you know who you are), here’s a breakdown of the artist and song requirements:
Artists:
- Minimum age: 16 by January 1, 2025 (because life experience matters)
- Must be Luxembourgish, have lived there for 3+ years, or be an honorary Luxembourger in the cultural scene (and yes, that is vague)
- You also need to be free from November 2024 until May 2025 because, well, Eurovision domination takes commitment.
Song:
- It can’t be longer than 3 minutes
- No one’s allowed to have heard it before September 1, 2024. So, if it’s already your go-to karaoke number, scrap it.
- You’re free to pick the language of your choice—Luxembourgish, French, English, Klingon, whatever floats your boat.
- Each act can submit up to five songs.
Oddly enough, while the rules manage to be both vague and specific about who can sing on their Eurovision stage. The composer/writer rules stay suitably woolly.
Luxembourg’s Eurovision History
Luxembourg is one of Eurovision’s founding countries and they’ve won the thing five times. Not too shabby for a country with fewer people than most Eurovision arenas. After their big return in 2024 (a mere 30 years after they last competed), Tali represented the country with Fighter. Sure, it didn’t storm to victory, but it’s all about the comeback, right?
So, Luxembourg is hungry for success. And with the Eurovision 2025 on-season getting into gear, it’s all eyes on the Rockhal to see who’ll carry the torch for this tiny nation with big ambitions.
Stay tuned and, as always, expect the unexpected—because it’s Eurovision, after all.
