Where Poland blessed a decent song with a weak performer, Mimicat is someone who way outclasses her self-penned ‘Ai Coração’.
This would surely be the output if you asked an AI app to create a classic 1980s Eurovision song. Every over-used trick in the book was thrown at the Portuguese national final, and the result, whilst not wholly unlistenable, is pretty much their worst entry since … well, most of the songs RTP has entered in the last few years.
The only hope lies with an incredibly charismatic performer who turns the low-budget staging into something very watchable – and that might be where it scores a handful of points. I can’t see this bothering the final.
