It’s been 35 years in the making, but those who said ABBA would never work together again were wrong. The Swedish group – who won Eurovision in 1974 – confirmed they have recorded two new songs. One is likely to be pushed as a single in December.
The news was confirmed in an Instagram statement from Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Faltskog. So far, it looks like just two songs, with only one title revealed – ‘I still have faith in you’.
They said in the statement that reuniting to record the songs “was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyous experience!”
At least one of the tracks is expected to compete for the Christmas Number One spot (is that still a thing?) given the new material will air in December this year.
‘I still have faith in you’ will be performed by the group during a two-hour TV show co-produced by NBC and the BBC. Or rather it will be performed by computer-generated avatars.
Guitarist, song-writer and producer, Ulvaeus recently revealed the band had been digitally scanned and “de-aged” to look like they did in 1979, when they performed their third and final tour.
If you happen to have spare money, and you’re in the market for old rope, the avatars are set to tour the world from next year.
