Georgian 2020 Eurovision song debuts online

Tornike Kipiani

Good morning OnEuropeans. Bright and early in Western Europe, but at a respectable hour in Georgia, we got to hear national broadcaster GPB’s entry for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest.

Georgian Idol winner Tornike Kipiani will perform a self-penned song ‘Take me as I am’ in the second half of the second Eurovision 2020 Semi-Final on 14 May in Rotterdam. Lyrically, it poses questions about quite how much English Tornike understands, although it does explain what happened to the Maltese rhyming dictionary.

Trivia bonus: It’s second time lucky for the singer songwriter. Tornike was in the running to represent Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017, but his song ‘You Are My Sunshine’ was not chosen.
