A mild rumbling in Bosnia

Bosnia

No the war hasn’t started again, it’s the Bosnian entry called Thunder and Lightning. Hmmm what do I say. I’d like to be able to say good things given that I’ve liked all of their previous entries, I’d like to……

It isn’t that it’s bad, it clearly isn’t. It just isn’t quite good enough. Best comparison last year’s Swiss entry. Competent but unremarkable. In their favour, Bosnia have more friends than Switzerland but one doesn’t know what effect the new 50/50 voting procedure is going to have in the semi finals. You’d think that Bosnia would be pretty safe under either system.

I don’t even hate the song. Analogy to illustrate: a male work colleague who I’d avoid socially like the plague latched onto myself and two female friends in a bar and came out with the line:” I’d never have a cigarette if I could have a cigar. It would be like w**king rather than having proper sex”.

Well that just about sums up this year’s Bosnian entry. A bit of a misfire on more levels than one…

Nick: We’re a long way short of special here. Can’t see where the visually interesting is going to come from – I guess Vuk is betting the farm on his own ability to sell the song, but it’s… meh. Plod rock. Dull plod rock.

Not the worst thing in the contest, but no obvious reason why that would qualify. Is it time to head back to barracks yet, and prepare for 17. Mai (complete with Hera!)

Phil: Is a nothing song, unfortunately. It’s trying to be all rawk, but ends up being just a very handsome man singing a song at me, with very little effect to be honest. It’s very borderline because there is nothing to get excited about to be honest. It’s just a little bit. meh, and being meh doesn’t get you through this bit of the contest does it?!

There seems to be something missing, and, once again, I can’t put my finger on what shade of missing it is… Tune? Nope. Lyric? Possibly … Guitar break? Pointlessly being there for comedic effect, I suspect.

He is a good performer and perhaps he is better than the song, because if there is one weak point, it could well be that. I also can’s see who on earth is going to pick the phone up for this song, it doesn’t have a natural constituency that can be called upon to be certain of giving it votes.

Hmmmm, confused
