13 May – Moonbeams are sowing silver, silver starry-eyed skies

Have you ever thought of the journeys some performers have to make to get to a Eurovision venue? Things might be slightly different this year, and Australia travelling anywhere takes the record now, but it wasn’t always this way.

Whilst Iceland to almost anywhere is a long journey, so is anywhere to warm Israel. In 1999, today’s birthday girl Evelin Samuel made the long trip from a probably less warm Estonia. They were relative newcomers at the time, and appeared to be gunning for a win. It didn’t fall to Evelin and her pal Camille, but they did start a very good run of results that lasted after Estonia’s win two years later. However, this may not have been a winner, but this song was arguably the final song of the 20th Century. No one can take that away from Estonia.

Evelin is 46 today.

Palju õnne sünnipäevaks, Evelin!
