16 March – Don’t touch me, no, don’t touch me

What’s your view in which is the best contest ever? Was it 2019? Is it another one from the 21st Century? Or is it one from longer ago?

There’s a school of thought that the best contest of all time was 1985. A great set of songs, a great hostess, a close result. And it was in Sweden. What’s not to like? Nineteen countries took part that year, and there was only a 116-point gap between first and last. We all know who won. But who did come last? Well, it was today’s birthday girl Linda Celeste Lepomme. She scored seven points, which in those days was a very high score for last place. All her points came from the Turkish jury, making it their fourth-favourite song of the year. I hope she got free holidays there in the years that followed. Still, she wore a very nice frock.

Linda is 65 today.

Gefeliciteerd/Bonne anniversaire, Linda!
