19 December – I’d hold my breath ’til my face turned blue

A home entry? It’s about time we had one. It’s always the poison chalice of Eurovision singers. But at least you’ll have a lot of the crowd behind you.

Now I always look upon my jaunts to Eurovision as a bit of a holiday. As do most of the performers. It’s a nice trip to somewhere different. It could be sunny (Lisbon), cheap (Kyiv) or camp (Stockholm) for example. But if you’re the home country’s singer you miss out on all that fun and games. As befell today’s birthday boy Frans Jeppsson Wall. He had the dubious honour of representing fan favourites Sweden. It wasn’t Schlager, but still somehow engaging. Luckily for him, he managed a fifth place. As home Swedish entries go, this fifth place has only been beaten once.

Frans is 20 today.

Grattis på födelsedagen, Frans!
