26 June – The wind changed and she didn’t return

It’s always good to celebrate those people that were the first. The first winner of the contest. The first winner from [insert country here]. The first contest in colour. You get the idea.

Today is the birthday of another trailblazer. Birthday boy Eduardo Nascimento was the first black man to participate. He was preceded the year by the first black singer (Milly Scott). But Portugal were very progressive in sending him. As you’ll know, his song has a definite vibe of the era about it (in a good way). However, despite it being very contemporary for its day, his song only scored three points. But he wasn’t last.

Eduardo is 75 today.

Feliz aniversário, Eduardo!
