29 January – And the memories refuse to go away

It’s time we had a (joint) runner-up as the birthday video, and it just so happens that we have one today for your viewing pleasure. Birthday boy Liam Reilly came along at the start of Ireland’s most successful decade. In the 1990s, they had four wins and two runners-up spots. Pretty impressive by and standard. Things haven’t gone that well for Ireland since but we still welcome their efforts.

Mr Reilly went on to write Ireland’s 1991 song, but luckily that didn’t mention a single European city. Of course, if he wrote ‘Somewhere in Europe’ now, it would have to name-check Baku, Moscow, Sofia and Canberra. Probably.

Liam is 62 today.

Happy birthday, Liam!
