29 September – Tell me, when will I be rewarded with happiness at last?

It’s a truth that we always go on about the recent contests and about how much better they are than those of old. But just think, in 20 years time, the fans will be laughing at how antiquated the contests of the 2010s are.

This little feature likes to pick songs from every decade, and today I’ve gone for the 1950s. She sadly died last year, but Margot Hielscher was the first German singer to sing in two contests – in consecutive years no less. And she was one of the first singers to use a prop. See if you can guess what it is. But when you look at it, most of what we’ll see in 2019 has probably been tried before.

Margot would have been 99 today.
