ESC birthdays 22/9 – She’s a stone and I’m a volcano

She Ursula Andress

Some may have noticed that Spain doesn’t often get good words off me. As I keep pointing out, it would be a dull old world if we all liked the same stuff, and it’s just that recent Spanish entries don’t hit the mark for me. But it’s not always been the case. I loved loved loved some of their stuff from the 1990s. Who can forget those cheeky girls from Azucar Morena, the delightful voice of Sergío Dalma, or the robbed Anabel Conde? Spain would have been a worthy winner those years. And then there was 1994. I quite liked the self-written song by Alejandro Abad. He was sort of a Stefan Raab of his day, singing for his country and then discovering and helping other stars. His song wasn’t that well-liked by Europe’s juries, but here he is in all his glory. Alejandro is 50 today.

¡Feliz cumpleaños, Alejandro!
