ESC birthdays 3/9 – I like Frank Sinatra. And I like John Lennon…

You know that you’re getting old when you come across fans or performers that weren’t even born when you first realised how magical the Eurovision Song Contest was.

You also know you’re getting old when fans you socialise with weren’t even born when a certain contest took place that you remember like it was yesterday.

That’s how things were in 1992. It was the early days of me watching our favourite TV show and I remember it well. The three songs in English finished in the top three positions, but my favourite from that year finished fourth.

You may remember the song that came 23rd that was performed by Pekka Juhani “Pave” Maijanen. He’s still a big star in his own country but it seems Eurovision wasn’t really for him. Even if he did sing about his idols and radio.

Pave is 65 today.

Hyvää syntymäpäivää, Pave!
