ESC birthdays – Welcome to Europe’s Frenchiest island

When all else fails, your final line of defence in the world of songwriting is to compose a song about geography. No, not the massive divide between two lovers, both yearning to be with the other. I’m talking about those patriotic songs about how wonderful your city/region/country is. They’re OK in certain contexts, such as when your country wins a gold medal in the decathlon. But often, when they’re in a contest with other songs, they lose their way a little. However, those occasional ones end up finishing fourth including this little ditty by little Patrick (Jean-François Chouchayan) Fiori. Is it justified? What do you think? Patrick is 46 today.

Bonne anniversaire, Patrick!
