There sometimes comes a song that is so classy, you know it’s not going to win the first prize at our favourite TV show. Or, it could be so predictable that it shouldn’t win first prize at our favourite TV show. It’s a good thing that we all like different stuff – it makes interesting debate (as long as it’s kept civil).
In other news, cast your mind back to a warm week in Athens in 2006. The world seemed a safer place and 37 countries gathered in a former Olympic venue and witness a contest where many songs had become classics. The one that came third came from today’s birthday Hari Mata Hari/Хари Мата Хари – the stage name of Хајрудин ‘Хари’ Варешановић/Hajrudin ‘Hari’ Varešanović. It could be argued that the band that won was always going to win, but with his stunning staging and strong Adriatic ballad, Хари/Hari wasn’t going down without a fight. Naturally, his song has its detractors, but the general opinion is that this is still a classic. And maybe any other year, it would have won.
Hari is 64 today.
Sretan rođendan/Срећан рођендан, Hari/Хари!
