Over recent years, Greece has had a good record in Eurovision. Stockholm was a bit of a blip – perhaps. However, back in the 1990s and before, they didn’t quite have it as good. Making it to the top 10 was an achievement, even though some performances deserved better.
Today’s birthday girl Μαριάννα Ευστρατίου/Mariana Efstratiou tried twice. Her first attempt made it to ninth place, so she must have though she’d do better second time around. In 1996 she only managed 14th. Sometimes it pays to quit whilst you’re ahead.
Mariana is 55 today.
