8 November – Harold passes very close to me, and Pierre tightens me

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It was once the case that English wasn’t the predominant language at our favourite TV show. It used to be French. That was mainly because more countries had that as an official language than any other. How things have changed.

It would be nice to hear more ‘français’, as it might mix things up a bit more. One of those countries using French was Luxembourg, who we know had spent a long time on the subs bench. In 1977 they sent today’s birthday girl Anne-Marie B (né Mlle Besse) with a song in French naturally. The tune may have sounded familiar as it referenced a certain man of the cloth. But not familiar enough to fall foul of plagiarism rules. Anyway, Anne-Marie tended to score highly or not at all, perhaps because the juries lapped up the familiarity, or were completely turned off by it. But it did have nice tubular bells.

Anne-Marie is 73 today.

Bonne anniversaire, Anne-Marie!
