Tribute act. Are there two more exciting words? An act who haven’t got much original stuff, so market themselves as a cover band for someone else’s hits. To be fair, there are some very good ones around, and they’ve even participated in our favourite TV show. The best (in fact, maybe the only one) of these is Eurobandið/Euroband. They were in Belgrade and there was a very memorable Icelandic party – down by the docks – that was arguably one of the best that year. As you’ll know, one of the members is today’s birthday boy Friðrik Ómar Hjörleifsson. He’s done other stuff at Eurovision before and since, but this is one of his finest hours three minutes. Fríðrik is 34 today.
