Remember Turkey? You must do. They took part for years with excellent songs and everyone ignored them. Then they went downmarket and got votes in droves. Nothing at all to do with any diaspora you understand. Then for reasons we can’t quite really fathom, they pulled out. The next thing we have is a Türkvizyon thingummy with many Turkic ‘nations’ participating. I’m sure the Eurovision family would welcome them back, even if some of their entries were just a little bit formulaic. Hadise Açıkgöz represented her, erm, adopted country in 2009. Hadise is 29 today.
