The Irish haven’t had it all their way lately. In the 1990s, the Emerald Isle could do no wrong, and the whole of Europe loved them. We though it would last forever. Then along came the free-language rule. Whilst it helped certain countries, it removed the advantage others had. Which brings me back to Ireland. Some quarters now see them as some wet little island on the edge of Europe with a quirky sense of music and performers with colourful language. Moscow wasn’t one of their best contests, but at least they tried something different with all-girl band Black Daisy fronted by Sinéad Mulvey. Sinéad is 27 today.
Happy birthday/Breithlá sona, Sinéad!
