I never realised it, but there are plenty of songs that tell us how good nature is. From the obvious treacly stuff from Emma Thing in 1990, to the more ear-friendly stuff from Kristína Peláková the other day. And then we have our Finnish chums. Remember Aava in 1998, which apparently translates as Widths (the widths of nature). Or there’s today’s birthday girl in the form of Tatjana Anette ‘Jasmine’ Valentin, who we understand is of gypsy origin – take that Esma. Jasmine liked singing about the sky and beaches, but didn’t do that well in Oslo, and I think it was because she forgot when the instrumental break was coming up in her performance. Jasmine is 39 today.
