Winners’ birthdays are like buses. You wait for ages and then two come along on consecutive days. In 1982, a girl from a place that was only just German went to a tiny contest in some tiny little town miles from anywhere and sang on a tiny stage with a certain Ralph ‘Mr Eurovision’ Siegel, and won with a record score. She even beat what I understand is Mr Hacksaw’s ring tone (see if you can work out which of the other 17 songs this is). Yes, today’s birthday girl is Nicole Hohloch Siebert who was 17 at the time. Nicole is 50 – yes, 50 – today.
