Once upon a time, the Eurovision was a sedate affair where the performers wore their best evening frocks and dinner jackets, and the audience did the same. Then something changed, probably in the late 1980s. I blame this little thing called Schlager getting a hold on things. And no-one does Schlager like our ‘dear’ friends in the Kingdom of Sweden. They use their take on music to an interesting effect, so much so that their former winners keep coming back. Like Anna Jenny Charlotte Nilsson/Perelli. Charlotte is 40 today.
