Yes, the contest goes back for years. In some years, there weren’t even semi-finals! Can you believe that? Eurovision being a single TV spectacular on a Saturday night? Well, it happened. One of the countries that appeared almost every year in those was Italy. In fact, they’d been at every year from 1956 to 1980. Then Alan Sorrenti comes along and ‘only’ finishes 6th. They take the next few years out. Alan is 64 today.
