Just for a change I thought I’d go random today, just to keep – dear reader – on your toes. I thought I’d celebrate the home entry. You can imagine them. They try for years and years to get to Eurovision. And when they do, the contest is just a few short kilometres from where they live. Not only that, you get the impression that your sponsoring broadcaster doesn’t really want you to win. They’ve just spent huge amounts of money to put on a great show and haven’t really considered the consequences of winning again. The best result for the broadcaster is finishing second. So where the pressure is off the hosts to win, they can experiment. In the case of 1989, SRG/SSR/TSI Idée Suisse decided to send a song in their lesser-known fourth national language (Romansh). I think it was an inspired choice. But what do you think?
