Elnur is channeling Ingmar Bergman with this performance and, as Ewan from ESC Insight has just explained to me, it’s very very symbolic staging with the whole angsty angels and demons thing going on across the staging.
Elnur and his styling och consulting team didn’t really need to go that deep into the thing to be honest, the song is strong enough to be a stand alone song with Elnur on his own on stage without the pretentious mincing around him, and whilst people will “get” it…. the juror and the casual telephone voter will not understand it, despite it almost resonating.
It’s almost certainly qualifying based on the strength of the song but… it looks a mess…
