Phil’s Eurovision Countdown 2025 – Part 22/37 – Lithuania

Lithuania – Katarsis – Tavo Akys

I realise that the snippet saying I am “doing” Lithuania sounds a bit dodgy, so let’s gloss over that and never mention it again, shall we?

Katarsis are a boy band, but not in the Boyzone kind of mould. They certainly broke that one, or didn’t have it in Lithuania when they were formed. They are known for their distinctive style and emotionally-charged compositions, according to Eurovision.tv – well that was certainly neutral of them!

The performance is the NF video, where the lead singer starts by wailing quite a lot in between the two parts of the verse… yup that is definitely a distinctive style alright.

This is seemingly the Lithuanian equivalent of Goth Rock, but the boys are just too pretty and not gnarly enough for me to take them seriously as rock artistes. They are also trying the time-honoured trick of distracting your attention with smog and the lighting rig going all over the place, but when you do get to the song it’s not that great. In fact, it could be argued that the song is literally the bridge repeated over and over, till the boys got bored and then they stuck a verse or two in between.

It’s repetitive and makes my brain hurt. Televoters are going to ignore it because it’s the toilet break of it’s semi final. It’s going nowhere fast.

Phil’s score : 1 Point.
