Norway- Kyle Alessandro – Lighter
I don’t know which kind of lighter Kyle is, maybe he is a Zippo, maybe he is a throw away Bic, but whatever he is a song that is talking about self-immolation is not a good thing.
It might not actually be about that, but I am not sure what it is actually about because the lyrics make absolutely no sense at all when you read them on Eurovision.tv (other sites are avaliable, of course). Along with the lyrics that make no sense, the staging in the MGP also made no sense.
There is, naturally, a lot of fire but Kyle seems to be dressed like a human armadillo with all of the warrior armour and the like, but I really don’t know what it is with Norwegian entrants and lyrics that make no sense, but it seems to be a thing.
If you can get past the lyrics, the armour and everything else, there is a decent tune and hook (buried deep), but Kyle isn’t old enough or, seemingly, capable enough to take the song where it needs to be. The whole thing needs to be re-tooled and re-fitted for the contest rather than trying to be a male Alessandra (from a couple of years back).
He’s not king of queens, he’s not even queen of kings. He’s just there and there is nothing more awful than being anonymous.
Phil’s Score – 2 Points
It’s anonymous as the one from Ireland and could represent any country.
At least it has some coherent structure but other than that, it’s not interesting enough.
