Phil’s Eurovision Countdown – Part 32/37 – Slovenia

Slovenia – Klemen – How much time do we have left?

Ah yes, another one of those singers that “the Internet” is trying to cancel for a reason that I don’t care about.

This song is about how Klemen felt when his wife was diagnosed with an incurable disease (from which she recovered), and is intensely personal. It takes a pair of bollocks as large as Monaco to share this kind of thing with the public, let alone through the medium of song.

Klemen sings this song to his wife, I believe, in the preview video, and I reckon that she would add loads to this song if she went to Basel. But purely as a contest song, it’s middling at best. Yes, it clearly tells the story, but it has too many words for the ordinary televoter to say: “let’s spend some money on this one”. It doesn’t build enough for me to register above the averageness in this year’s contest.

It’s got to be too powerful for this to work on stage, and whilst singing upside down is a thing – it’s a gimmick, and one that detracts from the message.

Phil’s Score – 5 points.

I don’t doubt the sincerity of the song. But why a song which could have been full of emotion and make you shed a tear, sounds a bit clinical? A song need to stir emotions, this one should have a lot of them but just stay away from thos emotions
