Azerbaijan has confirmed it will be heading to Vienna in 2026. Head of Delegation Nurlana Jafarova announced on August 6 that İctimai TV would take part, while also admitting that the whole process was running late thanks to “management decisions.”
Translation: someone in the office said “we’ll sort it after summer holidays” and never got round to it.
A Radical Idea: A Public Selection?
The most intriguing whisper is that Azerbaijan might actually let the public play a role. Yes, really. İTV is considering sending the winner of The Voice of Azerbaijan. With a song of their choice. Quite the departure from their usual model of ringing up Swedish songwriters, handing them a glossy internal brief, and an envelope of cash.
If the plan sticks, Azerbaijan could join the ranks of countries pretending to have a national final by piggybacking on a TV format already in place.
