Costume change. Are there two more enigmatic words in the Eurovision lexicon? One of these can enhance a quality song, or even make a less quality one all that more special. It all comes down to when the change occurs, and what the changee changes into.

One costume change at most is usually enough in a three-minute song, but today’s birthday girl Daria Kinzer managed two! After all, one Croatian song with a costume change had yielded a fifth place. She receives top marks for the imaginative ways her outfits do change, although there’s something very Clockwork Orange about one of her stage pals. Daria didn’t quite make it out of her 2011 semi-final, but she did bag a couple of maxima. Aside from this year, Croatia haven’t had it that good over the last decade, and even sat on the sidelines a couple of times. Let’s hope someone, costume change or not, can prove the recent Malmö show wasn’t a blip.

Daria is 36 today.

Sretan rođendan, Darija!
