Do you know the history of the preview video? They came about in 1971 as a result of the fun and games in Madrid in 1969. Amsterdam in 1970 was a stop-gap before the wholesale changes came about. Countries could no longer select a song as late as the week before the contest. There were new style juries and voting, and more and more colour, as demonstrated by the presenter of 1971. So here’s one of those first preview videos, which shows views of Yugoslavia. Krunoslav Slabinac was the performer, who today would be classed as a Croat. Krunoslav is 72 today.
