7 October – I feel it in the air tonight

Some days my wit deserts me. I can easily pick a song. But I can’t tell an interesting story about it. It might be because I was very young when the performance actually happened, or those online sources of reference are very lacking.

Today’s song is a duet, partly sung by today’s birthday girl Κωνσταντίνα Κωνσταντίνου/Constantína Konstantínou. She was in Munich in 1983 in front of Europe’s biggest electric fire. She’s the one on the right. They didn’t do that well but still scored from seven juries. It was their country’s worst result in two attempts. Constantína came back in 1997 as a writer, and had much more success. Her song sung by members of her family finished fifth, and Cyprus didn’t have a better finish until 2018.

Constantina is 58 today.

Χρόνια πολλά, Κωνσταντίνα!
