Cyprus has officially thrown its hat in the ring for Eurovision 2026, confirming participation on 4 August via national broadcaster CyBC (ΡΙΚ). But for anyone hoping for a glitzy national final, think again – CyBC is sticking to what it knows, with a streamlined, invitation-only internal selection.

Despite social media speculation, there will be no national final for Cyprus this year. CyBC hasn’t staged a public song contest since 2015, and the broadcaster cites budget realities as the main reason for keeping things in-house.

Over the last month, CyBC issued an invite to top Greek and Cypriot record labels (by which we mean mostly Panik) to pitch artists and songs. The broadcaster reports a positive response, including submissions from established and experienced performers alongside the usual roster of newcomers.

After sending up-and-coming talents in recent years – and notably missing qualification in May when Theo Evan placed 11th in the first semi-final with “Shh” – CyBC is understood to favour a recognisable, stage-ready artist for next year’s contest.

All eyes now turn to the autumn reveal. Last year, CyBC was one of the first to name its artist and among the last to reveal its Eurovision song.
