Evridiki
Eurovision Song Contest 2007 Cyprus: Evridiki - Comme ci, Comme ca

Nick: Gosh, it’s… it’s what the future used to be like. It’s the music of 2000 as predicted in 1980. It’s Manic Miner and Super Mario, and some middle aged Cypriot woman shouting in French over the top. It’s ‘Think of a Number‘ with Johnny Ball. It’s … lots and lots of cultural references which you’re too young to get, quite frankly.

Even the backdrop’s all blocky Commodore 64 graphics. I can see why. I can definitely see why. I can also see why not. It could go absolutely massive when we get a proper crowd in here, and it could also die on its arse. I really can’t tell which. I think I like it though, overall.

Phil: I just don’t know where to begin – well that’s a lie, I do actually – she’s bad – and she was late in singing with the backing tune in her first couple of run throughs and the song certainly needs some work if it is to fulfill the potential that people think this song has – it has a whiff of the 80’s and a full bodied nose of the song that could have won about it – if you are wine drinkers, think of a Chateau neuf de pape, that has gone all vinegary, that is what this song could become if she is not careful. They have employed MS Media Player in the background for the audio bars and the set changed background – but overall, I sense she has tried too hard in order to get this song to a target audience, that will only give it 12 points at most.
