6 October – I’ll even walk you to the moon

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We occasionally talk about countries that have the old love/hate relationship with our favourite contest. While your country’s broadcaster may studiously take part every year, there are those that take the odd year out here and there.

Our friends in the Czech Republic were latecomers to the whole Eurovision circus party. Countries around them took part as soon as they could, but the Czechs took their time. Today’s birthday girl Tereza Kerndlová was ČT’s second entrant, in 2009. For six years, she was her nation’s record points scorer, with a whole nine of them from four different countries. Tereza had even come through a national final which was a riotous old affair with a range of music styles. Anyway, Tereza may not have had the finish she hoped, but she at least she signalled that move into using the English language.

Tereza is 38 today.

Všechno nejlepší k narozeninám, Tereza!
