Hoisting the Flag (For You)

Well, it’s a busy old morning in Eurovisionia. I saw just the one run through of Czech Republic, and it was interesting. A huge prop, lots of spangly-clad temptresses, and a real, real attempt to paper over the one huge fault which lies at the core of the performance – to wit, Tereza sings about as well as I do. It’s a great one to watch on mute though!

Belarus
, as the other bloke says, is not as bad as it ought to be. It’s still a pretty uninteresting slab of stuff, but the stage looks nice.

Latvia worries me. It’s wrong in all the right ways. It’s giving me the kind of goosebumps I’ve not had since Teenage Life (the song, not my own teenage life which is a long, long time, such a long, long tiiiimmmmmeeeeeee …). It plays every trick in the Eurovision playbook, and I just slightly fear it. The singing’s not great, but the last 45 seconds make me go Ooooooooohhhhh … now then …

It’s either going nowhere fast or everywhere even faster. I haven’t the faintest clue which.
