I’m behind.. Portuguese and Czech brooding

Sorry Our Phil, I know you don’t like ‘lumpage’ and reviews of two countries together but I’m still recovering all those pieces to radio and television networks!
As some of you may know I’m a fan of Portugal and it’s a sin to lump them with anyone else but I have to get back on track.

Leonor is better than I expected, she’s not as angry and tetchy as I’d imagined from the clip before and I was rather taken by the staging. It’s a dark, brooding rock track and needs to be staged as such. Her vocal seemed ok too and the key change works a treat. I know I’m biased but I see nothing wrong with is, oh wait except for the song. To be fair it sticks in my ear. It might not stick in many Europeans’ ears mind..

There’s an ocean between us Leonor sings and there’s an ocean between the Czech singers, it’s called a stage. They seem to want to use the stage in the entirety just to show off the huge ‘doors, windows’ backdrop but I don’t think it’s good to have a duet sung by two singers so far apart. The vocals are powerful as hell and Vaclav totally booms. The drawback for me, like Portugal, is the song. Not quite strong enough and they must be borderline too. Her trademark ‘throw shoes away’ thingy happens to look a bit comical, even Vaclav had a titter when the camera was on him. In fact nether of them seem to know where the cameras are and/or when they’re on.. But maybe it doesn’t matter?
