Do you remember a few years ago when the Nordics, more specifically Scandinavia, had things sewn up. We say this from time to time that some countries could have a guy on stage humming and he’d still come third.
Well, today’s birthday girl definitely didn’t hum, but she was one of the favourites right from the time she made the short trip to Malmö (or Malmø as she’d probably call it). It is of course Emmelie Charlotte-Victoria de Forest. There were some pointers, like the bare feet, the waif-like delivery, and who doesn’t love a good old tin whistle. And when you have a rabbit called Karin, what else is not to love. She scored eight maxima (two fewer than the runner-up), but scored off every country except San Marino. And whilst some other singers disappear without trace, Emmelie is still a face we see from year to year.
Emmelie is 26 today.
