Should a song be all about singing, or should it be about the whole package? That is, the singing, the dancing, the costumes, even the camera work? Our winner this year was all about the song, but it’s not always the way.
In 2014, Estonia sent the all-singing, all-dancing birthday girl Tanja Mihhailova-Saar to sunny Copenhagen. She sang, she danced, and she was thrown about. She gave the sparkles a miss, but she made good use of the immense stage. So what went wrong? Well, another four points would have put her in tenth place in semi-final, and seen her through to the Grand Final. Maybe it was Estonia’s own fault for giving three of those four to the song that finished tenth. But whatever, her mate Argo Liik was throwing her and she didn’t miss a note. What a trooper!
Tanja is 36 today.
