6 December – A voice echoes over the mountains up to the heavens

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

What’s your favourite Eurovision country? More to the point, why are they your favourite? Do they have the best national finals? Do they always make the right choice? Do you always find their performers the most attractive?

Some people love Estonian songs, perhaps for all the reasons above. And who are we to argue? In 2009 ERR sent Urban Symphony to M*sc*w, fronted by today’s birthday girl Sandra Nurmsalu. With her pals she managed a creditable sixth place, ahead of a number of fan favourites, and behind a couple of others. And scoring pretty consistently from both juries and televoters. Rändajad featured violins, lots of moody lighting, and a cracking performance. Just about everything you want from a performance. It’s just a pity Norway’s nailed-on winner was up against them, otherwise Tallinn in 2010 could have been a possibility.

Sandra is 36 today.

Palju õnne sünnipäevaks, Sandra!
