Estonia is one of those countries that sort of ‘gets’ Eurovision. They’ve qualified for Grand Finals more often than not of late, and were “New Europe’s” first winners. And Eurolaul/Eesti Laul has always been one of the high points of the national final season.
But they occasionally fail to make the cut. And this happened in 2007 when today’s birthday girl Gerli Padar in Helsinki. You’d think that with the short journey she had to make, she’d breeze through the semi-final and do well on the Saturday night, just like her brother Tanel. In these days of sibling rivalry, she had a hard act to follow. Sadly, Tanel still has the bragging rights. Although they both got a maximum from Latvia.
Gerli is 45 today.
Palju õnne sünnipäevaks, Gerli!
