Chicken balls, drag, tutus and twink rock! Phew!

Vilija Matačiūnaitė

Ooh a lovely chicken ball salad with That Monty’s hot sauce for lunch and it’s onwards and upwards now to…

Austria.

Ooh Conchy! That was classy, controlled and measured. Pretty much exactly as you’d want to treat that song. The loooooong first camera shot builds the suspense and a poor stage hand has to steady the spider cam, though on the last run through it still wobbled slightly. The second run through we had a limp fizz of pyros but a full blast of flames on the third. The flame background works ever so well as the choruses break though I was expecting spotlights in time with the music as was the case in the ‘Dancing With Stars’ live performance. Despite missing this I’ll admit to goosebump moment.

Lithuania

Vilija looks like she should be shoved up a chimney to clear out someone’s flue. What an erect tutu! I saw a potential in this in the Lithuanian final and they’ve done a competent job staging it. I like the electronic pulsing beat part and the long shots capture this nicely. The dancing is working for me too though and adds to the overall package. Mmmm this has to be borderline if judged purely on the song but as a performance it may have enough legs to cross the line. She’s surely showing enough leg for all of us!

Finland

This is how to stage a song. Softengine looked so fresh on stage today and this has a more rousing, anthemic feel to it now. I liked it before but they’ve really done a fantastic job of staging this and this has moved up a lot for me. Our Phil is right, Europe needs shooting if this doesn’t qualify. The boys are as pretty as you’d like too. Yum!
