It’s only taken five songs but there’s finally one I have the pashes for. This would be most people’s idea of their Eurovision nightmare but I love it. It has everything, blond Scandinavians, accordions, manic dancing, accordions, violins and accordions. Did I mention it had accordians?
Our two blond lasses singing lead are clearly more car pool mums than the next big naked centrefold but somehow that all fits into the homeliness of it all.
The song wouldn’t be out of place as a beer keller singalong and gives a faithful nod to Ukrainian folk music of centuries gone by but that only makes me love it more 🙂
The only thing I don’t get is the weird strings of beads hanging from the roof during the performance. They’re normally the kind of thing that hangs in doorways to protect against the heat. There’s no need for them here in Oslo, trust me. A giant umberella would be more appropriate…
Other than that it’s a triumph. I can well see it qualifying. I’d love to be able to say it will win. That would be the ultimate wet dream come to life, but some sod normally wakes me up before I get to that stage and so I fear it will be this time.
Good luck girls. I’ll be clapping along in the final 🙂
